Local Birdwatching

Birdwatching Is A Must!

Having been members of the RSPB for the last 30 years we can’t believe how lucky we are living in the Livradois Forest.

Regular visits to our garden include: Black Redstarts, Redstarts, Nuthatch, Blackcap, Whitethroat, Bullfinch, Goldfinch, Chaffinch, Jay, Green Woodpecker and Great Spotted Woodpecker.  Brambling and Fieldfare are winter visitors.  Skylarks, Raven, Red and Black Kite, Kestrel, Merlin, Sparrowhawk and Buzzard fly overhead.  Just 5 minutes walk down the track from our house we have seen Crossbills, Crested Tits and Stonechats but our two star species are Red Backed Shrikes who this summer are raising young in our garden and the Black Woodpecker who does a regular commute past our property from one wood to the other, if we don’t see him then most days we hear him………………….No promises though!!

A thirty minute drive to the banks of the River Allier is the nesting site of BeeEaters and Sand Martins,  you just need to pull over to the side of the road to see them…………..Amazing!
